RAM

Random Access Memory. It is used for storage purpose. RAM is only a temporary memory. RAM is used to increase the performance(speed) of the machine. The RAM is used as the "Virtual Memory". RAM is also mentioned as the "Physical Memory".

Types

• Static RAM (SRAM)
• Dynamic RAM (DRAM)

The Dynamic RAM can be futher classified into:

• DDR
• DDR2
• DDR3

DDR - Double Data Rate.

Difference can be easily identified between all the types of RAM's.

• SRAM

Static RAM has 2 bends in the chip.

• DRAM

DDR RAM has only one bend in the chip.

DDR RAM has a bend in the right side of the RAM.

DDR2 RAM has a bend in the middle of the chip.

DDR3 RAM has the bend in the left side of the RAM.

DRAM's uses capacitors to store the data's. The data's in the DRAM are refreshed periodically.
